Jamal took part in basketball, football and track at Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, Tennessee and he also played quarterback at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. This university is where their father played football. Jalen Ramsey made his football skills by playing with older boys at a local park.

Jalen Ramsey was a student of Ensworth High School in Nashville, Tennessee, during his freshman year. On May 24th, 2013, in his final school track meet, he was able to shatter the Tennessee state record in the long jump with a mark of 25′ 3.25″ and it broke the 16 year old record set in 1997. Jalen Ramsey competed in a lot of events which ranged from the 100 meters to the shot put. He was able to record personal best times in the 100 meter dash where his personal best times was 10.50. Not only that, he was also able to record 21.44 in the 200 meter dash and 48.02 in the 400 meter dash.

You may wonder about Jalen Ramsey’s college career. Well, as explained on Wikipedia, he began all 14 games for the Florida State Seminoles as a true freshman in 2013. Since Deion Sanders in 1985, Jalen Ramsey was the first true freshman to begin a game at cornerback for the Seminoles. During his freshman year when Florida State won the National Championship over Auburn, Jalen Ramsey wore the #13 jersey. Then, he shifted to jersey #8 for his sophomore and junior seasons. The #17 jersey was also chosen by him for kick returns during his junior year. It was a number which had been retired in honor of former superstar Charlie Ward who gave Ramsey permission to wear the number.

With 49 tackles, one interception and one sack, he finished the year. As a sophomore, 14 games were played by him with 80 tackles, two interceptions, 12 passes defended, three forced fumbles and two sacks. As a junior, 13 games were played by him with one sack, nine passes defended and one fumble recovery on 52 tackles.

On September 18, he recorded a 36-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the 14 – 0 victory against Boston College. For his performance in the 2015 season, he was named as a Consensus All-American.

In track & field at Florida State, Jalen Ramsey also competed. He competed as a relay sprinter and long jumper.
