The Minibar

The Minibar contains icons to access your courses, read alerts, and also update your D2L profile settings.

  • Lone Star College logo: It will take you back to the D2L homepage.
  • Choose a Course Icon Choose a Course Icon: Allows you to choose or pin a course.
  • Message Alerts Icon Message Alerts Icon: It will notify you of unread instant messages or emails.
  • Subscription Alerts Icon Subscription Alerts Icon: Notifies you of the new posts for subscribed items.
  • Update Alerts Icon Update Alerts Icon: Notifies you of new and updated announcements, grades and dates.
  • Personal Menu: Options to edit profile, notifications, account settings, or view course.

The Navbar

The Navbar gives links to the course tools. On the D2L Homepage, only the Collaboration menu and Support links are going to display. The Navbar can change after you enter a course and may not look the same for every course. The Support link in the Navbar is going to take you to the Virtual Learning Assistance Center, usually referred to as VLAC, that contains technical support information as well as resources for being an online student and using D2L.

My Courses

The My Courses widget will display the current semester’s courses and any courses you have pinned. The upcoming courses which have not started yet or the courses which have ended and are closed and unable for you to access, including the pinned courses. You are able to see your courses by clicking the View All Courses link. It is located in the bottom left of the My Courses Widget.

Announcements, Updates, and Calendar

The Announcements widget consist of the system announcements related to D2L. The most recent announcements are going to appear at the top of the widget, unless they have been dismissed. Please be sure to check the Announcements widget for relevant and up-to-date information. The Updates widget is going to show the number of unread emails. When in a course, you are able to see if there are unread discussion posts, quizzes to take or assignment feedback. The Calendar widget can display instructor-created course events after you are in a course.

How to use D2L Lonestar?

Here are some steps to use D2L Lonestar:

  • Step 1: You have to log into My.LoneStar.edu. Choose LSC Online.
  • Step 2: Then, you have to choose the Brightspace D2L tile.
  • Step 3: If this is your first online course at LSC, you have to complete this mandatory orientation.
  • Step 4: Please choose Your Online Course.
  • Step 5: You are able to click the Content to view all learning materials.
  • Step 6: You will be able to view current grades.
  • Step 7: Under course activities you will find Assignments, Attendance, Class Progress, and Quizzes
  • Step 8: Collaboration- Tools that can be used for communication Chat, Class list, Discussions, Email, ePortfolio, Groups, WebEx

How to Access your Online Courses?

From the Lone Star College Homepage, here is a step by step to access your online courses:

  • Firstly, you have to visit www.lonestar.edu.
  • After that, you have to click the Class Login link in the menu at the top of the page.
  • Then, you have to click the Secure Login image and log in with your LSC username and password.
  • If your course is an online or hybrid course, you are going to see it in the course list under My Courses.
  • Also, you may see face-to-face courses listed. Lots of faculty use D2L to support their students’ learning on campus.

From the myLoneStar Portal, here is a step by step to access your online courses:

  • Firstly, you have to log in to my.LoneStar.edu.
  • After that, you have to click the LSC-Online tile.
  • If your course is an online or hybrid course, you are going to see it in the course list under My Courses.
  • Also, you may see face-to-face courses listed. There are lots of faculty use D2L to support their students’ learning on campus.

If you do not see the course, how should you do?

  • If you have your instructor’s contact information, you have to tell your instructor that you cannot access the course.
  • From the D2L Home page, you are able to click on Support in the Navbar. This will open the Virtual Learning Assistance Center (VLAC)
  • Please click on Technical Support in the left menu.
  • You are able to email, call, or chat for help.

If the Chat attendant cannot help you as soon as possible, a ticket is going to be sent to the LSC-Online department. You are going to be contacted immediately. Please  give your best contact information so they can reach you.

The Office of Technology Services Service Desk is available to support your technical needs and can forward tickets to LSC-Online as needed.
