Occupational Therapists and Physical Therapist

According to the official website of LAUSD, the minimum requirements for Occupational Therapist are listed below.

  • You need to have a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in Occupational Therapy.
  • You must have a certificate from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • You need to have a California Occupational Therapy License.
  • You need to have a driver’s license.

And here are the minimum requirements for Physical Therapists.

  • You need to have a bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in Physical Therapy.
  • You must have a California Physical Therapy License.
  • You need to have a driver’s license.

Physical Therapist LAUSD

In LAUSD, school-based occupational therapy and physical therapy is a rewarding opportunity to provide Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapist services under IDEA namely Individuals with Disabilities Education Act:

  • Students are assessed with their educational settings and use an ecology model of assessment to determine their needs.
  • Treatment, program consultation, and environmental modifications for students with disabilities are provided to be able to improve student function in the educational environment.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and those include parents, students, teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, adapted physical education teachers, orientation and mobility specialists, speech teachers and many more.
  • Travel between schools to give occupational therapy or physical therapy services to students who have been identified to require OT or PT services.

  • There are 197 work days.
  • There are 10 sick days.
  • Work Extended School Year for 4 to 5 hour days.

School Nurses

The main duties as a school nursery is to provide nursing services to children ages 0-22 in assigned school location, early education center or in a position which provides District-wide nursing services. Services include first aid, immunization assessment and follow-up, communicable disease control, health education, development of school health plans, health appraisals and child abuse reporting, but of course the services are not limited to these.

Here are the minimum requirements for school nurses.

  • You need to have a Baccalaureate degree (BA or BS) from a regionally-accredited college or university. If the transcript that the applicant has is a foreign transcript, it needs to be evaluated by an approved agency.
  • You need to have a current California (CA) Registered Nurse (RN) License.
  • You need to have School Nurse Credential, it may be obtained once employed.
  • You must have current Healthcare Provider CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • You need to have a valid CA Driver License and use of an insured automobile.
  • You are a United States (US) citizen or have the legal right to be able to work in the US.

The salary is based on a ten-month contract with annualized salary and it ranges up to $84,995.
