Dupage Medical Group Overview

The Formation of DuPage Medical Group

As explained on the Duly Health and Care site, in the early 1960s, Dr. McCray was still new to medicine as a private-practice surgeon in Glen Ellyn, III., when he started re-imagining the physician practice a sa way to give local patients access to advanced care specialists and related medical services all under one roof.

35 clinics were visited by Dr. McCray across the country including Minnesota’s prestigious Mayo Clinic, examining specific elements that made group practices successful. He cooperated with some local physicians such as Dr. Glen Asselmeier, insternists Drs. Joe Crumrine, James Erlenborn and Fred Kuharich and pediatricians Drs. James Vercoe and William Kindrachuk. A short time later, Dr. Gary Christenses joined the team.

In August 1963, the group broke ground on a 12,000-square-foot building and agreed on calling itself the Glen Ellyn Clinic. This clinic opened on September 1, 1964 and it had eight physicians, 15 nurses and a staff of lab technicians and administrative personnel. This clinic offered a number of innovations that were groundbreaking at the time such as X-ray services, a laboratory and a pharmacy, all onsite.

The clinic continued expanding. After Wheaton Medical Clinic merged with the Glen Ellyn Clinic in 1997, then in the following year Mid-America joined. Shortly after, physicians from these three started to return the combined clinic to the private physician group-practice model under local control and the result was DuPage Medical Group which was formed in 1999.

DuPage Medical Group became the leading multi-specialty group practice in the state and it has been committed to superior care and innovation. It has a leadership structure designed to maintain balance between primary and specialty care. It had more than 700 primary care and specialty physicians in more than 100 locations and it grew to handle more than 2 million patient visits annually.
