What Will You Find on D2L Brightspace SDSU?
The D2L can be mentioned as a portal to your online courses materials. The users are able to access course documents, assignments, quizzes, grades and discussion boards. In other words, the D2L at SDSU is a learning management system providing access to course materials from all six of the BOR institutions.
As a learner, you can view the course content in the Brightspace Learning Environment. The learners are also assessed on the knowledge they acquire on their learning journey. Within the D2L SDSU, there are a bunch of features that you can use to facilitate your learning.
The D2L Navigation

- Minibar

It’s important to note, when you copy and paste formatted content from other sources, well, the HTML Editor in the Discussions tool will have some limitations. For instance, if you’re copying content from a document with APA formatting and pasting it into a discussion thread, of course, the formatting will not be preserved.
As a best practice for submitting assignments, the D2L recommends the users to use the Assignments tool. But if you prefer to use the Discussions tool, the D2L recommends submitting documents as attachments in the tool, preserving document formatting.
Assignments
The Assignments tool allows you to submit assignments in Brightspace Learning Environment which eliminate the need to mail fax or also email your work to the instructor. You just simply upload your submission to the appropriate assignment and submit.
When you submit an assignment, you should also understand the due dates and end dates. In this case, the date is specific to assignment only, while a due date is the submission deadline of an assignment in your course.
End dates will be attached to assignments. The end date is the final date of an assignment which is available for you to submit to, regardless of the due date. You’re no longer able to submit after the end date of the assignment is past, no matter what the assignment’s due date is.
Quizzes
Quizzes tool allows you to take a quiz, see class statistics for a quiz and review your quiz results. Here’s how to take a quiz!
- Find the ‘Quizzes’ icon on the navbar.
- You can then click on the quiz you want to take on the ‘Quiz List’ page.
- Here, you need to read the instructions and details for the quiz. If you are ready, you can click on ‘Start Quiz’.
- Then, answer each question. When you have completed the question, your answer will automatically save. You’re able to see which questions have saved answers in the ‘Questions’ section of the quiz’s left panel. Alternatively, you can also click the question number if the quiz’s left panel to go back to the question.
- You can then click on the ‘Next Page’ or ‘Previous Page’ to navigate between pages.
- Then, click ‘Go to Submit Quiz’ once you answer all quiz questions.
- If you are not ready to submit the quiz, instead you can click the question number in the quiz’s left panel to go back to the question or if you are ready to submit the quiz, you can continue to click ‘Submit Quiz’.
Grades
Grade tool is used to check your grades on assignments and tests. You can also view your individual grades, comments, class averages and feedback. The Class Progress tool will assist you to check your progress in a course via tracking course-specific assignments and feedback, and through measuring 9 progress indicators:
