As a Lonestar College student, you have two Lone Star College email accounts: D2L email and myLonestar email. Well, on this page, we are going to share some information about that. Keep on reading this page.
D2L Email and myLoneStar Email
Need to know that D2L email can only be accessed within the D2L learning management system. MyLonestar email can only be accessed through myLonestar.
- D2L Email
D2L email is your online course email account. D2L email is going to allow you to communicate with your instructor and also fellow students within the D2L Learning Management System and to any Lone Star College employee’s Lonestar.edu email account. You will be able to use your D2L email account for in-course correspondence.
D2L allows two methods for accessing your D2L Email.
- You are able to go to Collaboration in the Navbar and click Email.
- You are able to go to the Message Alerts in the Minibar. Next, click on the envelope.
- myLone Star Email
The myLonestar email is an official college email account. You are able to use your myLonestar email for all official Lone Star College correspondence. With this myLoneStar portal, you are going to have a fully functioning email system. Also, you will be able to email anyone, even outside Lone Star College. Remember that you do not have email addresses of your classmates contained in your contacts.
How to access myLonestar email?
Your Lonestar College student email address follows the following formula:
myLoneStar username@my.lonestar.edu
(e.g. dsmith1@my.lonestar.edu)
Whatever your username you use to sign in to myLoneStar, it is part of your email address.
So, how to access myLonestar email? You are able to access your email by logging in to myLoneStar and also setting your account up in the mail app on your phone.
For notes:
- It’s @ my dot lonestar dot edu. Employees’ emails are only @lonestar.edu; student addresses include the “my.”
- Also, you have an email inside D2L, username@d2l.lonestar.edu. While this is an official email, it is not the official email. When communicating outside of a D2L classroom, for example contacting an advisor or the library, you are able to use your @my.lonestar.edu account, not your D2L one (that does not like to send/receive externally.).
- Email addresses are not case-sensitive (nor is your username). But, passwords are case sensitive.

Unable to Access Email Because of the Quiz in Progress
You may get the error when you try to access your email. A quiz setting cannot access communication tools while you are taking the quiz. If you are taking a quiz that has this setting enabled, and you have started but not submitted the quiz, you are going to be unable to access the Email, Instant Message, or Alerts tools via the Minibar or the Collaboration menu. If you try to access Email, Instant Messages, or any Alerts in the Minibar, you are going to get a message with a link to the quiz or quizzes that have not been submitted.
If you face that message, you are able to follow the steps below:
- At the first step, you have to click on any of the “Message alert” icons in the minibar.
- You are going to see a clickable link for each quiz you need to submit.
- The next step that you have to do is to click the link to be taken to a quiz.
- After that, you have to complete and Submit each quiz listed there.
- If you are unable to submit the quiz, then you are able to contact your instructor.
- After you have submitted the quizzes listed in your “Message alert” area, you will be able to access the D2L Email and Instant Message tools.
