However, Desire2Learn gives the students, faculty and also staff even a guest to find out what they need. Logging Into D2L at ETSU
In order to log into D2L for East Tennessee State University , here’s the URL that you can access here. Once you access the URL, you will be taken into the D2L PDX login page. Here, you will then see the ‘ETSU Student/Faculty D2L Login’ button. Then, click on the button.
Here, you will be required to enter your ETSU username and password. Those credentials are the same username and password which you can use to login at the computer labs on campus. Make sure to enter your ETSU username and password correctly.
Before you log into D2L, to ensure compatibility and accessibility when using D2L, make sure your computer’s software is up-to-date and pass the system check. Then, if your current internet browser is out of compliance or if you don’t have a feature, update or also component installed, of course, the D2L’s system check will alert you of the issues and the steps needed to solve your issues.

D2L Content
If you want to access the D2L Content, you have to click on the Content link which is located in the top navigation bar. Content on D2L ETSU is a tool used to house course materials which your instructors have made available to you. The Content here is organized by modules and sub-modules. Sure, your instructor’s naming convention will vary, however, the navigating and accessing documentation will work the same.
D2L Communication
The D2L Communication section consists of a calendar, classlist, discussions, groups and notifications. Each section will be explained as follow:
- Calendar
The Calendar on D2L is used to manage course-related or personal tasks. This tool can also hold course and assignment due dates, exams, virtual office hours, and other information which instructor posts for you. Moreover, you can also add personal tasks to assist track group meetings, deadlines and milestones.
In order to access Calendar in D2L, you can click on the Communication link group which is located in the top navigation bar and choose Calendar from the drop-down menu.
- Classlist
The Classlist in D2L provides the information about the faculty and the students enrolled in your D2L course. It also allows the users to see who is online, send emails, view blogs, page classmates and make changes to your public profile. You can also use the image and related reference material to familiarize yourself with the layout of the Classlist page.
- Discussions
The Discussion board is used to facilitate class and group discussions based on a particular topic. It can also be used to coordinate group projects and serve as a place to ask general questions to your instructor and your classmates.
- Groups
The Groups section allows your instructor to divide your class into some groups for discussions, projects and other assignments. With the Group tool, your instructor can also create virtual sign-up sheets.
- Notifications
The D2L ETSU will automatically notify the students about a lot of information related to their courses. The good news, the students now have the option to ‘opt-in’ to receive SMS text message and email alerts when their instructors complete specific actions in a D2L course.
D2L Evaluation
The D2L Evaluation section consists of Assessments, Discussions, Dropbox and Grades. Each section will be explained as follow:
- Assessments
You can use Assessment to access quizzes and exams which your Instructor has made available to you. To access Assessments in D2L, you can click on the Evaluation link group which is located in the top navigation bar and choose Assessments from the drop-down menu.
- Discussions
To access the Discussion board in D2L Evaluation, you can click on the Evaluation link group which is located in the top navigation bar and choose Discussions from the drop-down menu.
- Dropbox
The Dropbox tool is used to receive electronic files for evaluation and feedback. This Dropbox can also be used to organize group discussions and projects. The students can submit the assignments by uploading files to folders in the Dropbox. Then, the instructors will view the submitted files, provide grades and also feedback all from within the Dropbox.
- Grades
Through this tool, you can see your individual grades, comments and also class averages. Only you and your instructor are able to see your grades, the other students cannot see your grades at all.
