You may want to return books and other items in the CSULB Bookstore. However, you may not know whether you can do it or not. Well, it seems that you need to know about CSULB Bookstore Return Policy. Here, you can read about it on the Forty Niner Shops site.

Textbook Return Guidelines in the CSULB Bookstore

According to the Forty Niner Shops, textbooks that you bought for Fall or Spring semester courses are able to be returned for a full refund through Saturday of the first week of classes. For textbooks which are bought during the second week of classes, they are able to be returned through Saturday of that week with proof of drop or class cancellation. For textbooks which are bought after the second week of the classes, those are not able to be returned.

CSULB Bookstore Return Policy

For textbooks which are bought for Summer and Winter session courses, they are able to be returned for a full refund through the first Friday of each session. For textbooks which are bought after the first week of each session are not able to be returned.

It is important for you to know that if you want to return textbooks, it must be accompanied by an original 49er Shops Bookstore receipt and make sure that the books are in their original condition and packaging same as when those books were bought. For the digital books, if they are marked, soiled, highlighted, damaged or activated, they are not able to be returned.

The Bookstore has the right to make a decision on the condition or resale value of all merchandise returned.

  • Digital books which have been activated
  • Campus Copy Center Material and Course Packets
  • Computer Hardware and Software
  • Gift Cards
  • Calculators (If Opened)
  • Merchandise which is not in original condition or package
  • Merchandise without a receipt
  • Seasonal Merchandise
  • Textbooks which are purchased outside the refund period

General Merchandise Refund Guidelines in CSULB Bookstore

Merchandise may be able to be refunded in 30 days from the date of purchase. It can be done as long as you have a Bookstore receipt and the product is in the similar condition as it was bought. You have to make sure that general merchandise has office/ school supplies, gifts, clothing and Art Store merchandise.

Computing Devices Return

You are able to return computing devices in 30 days from the date of purchase as long as you have a Bookstore receipt and the computing device and its accessories have the same condition as bought. There will be a 25% restocking fee and a Factory Reset fee of $5.00 which will be deducted from your refund. What items are categorized into computing devices? Those are desktops, laptops, MP3 players, tablets, VR and many more.

Technology Accessories Return

You are able to return technology accessories in 30 days from the date of purchase. Make sure that it is in their original packaging and accompanied by a receipt. For accessories which are bought new, they must be completely unused so that it will be eligible for a full refund.

If the items are not in brand new condition, there will be a minimum 15% restocking fee which will be deducted from your refund. What items are categorized into technology accessories? Those are chargers, cables, printers, cases, headphones, flash drives, input devices, hard drives, action cameras and many more. It is important for you to know that in-ear headphones are not able to be returned if they are opened.

Tradebooks Return

Tradebooks are able to be returned in 14 days from the date of purchase as long as you have a Bookstore receipt and the product is still in the same condition as you bought it.

Refunds for Cash, Charge Purchases, and Beach Dollar

Cash will be able to be refunded for the full amount of the purchase. Refunds on Beach Bucks purchases will be credited back to your Beach ID card and refunds on credit cards will be credited back to the credit card account used to make the purchase.

Refunds for Check Purchases

There will be a Beach Bucks deposit which will be made to your ID card. It is able to be redeemed for cash 20 days from the original purchase date at the ID Card Services counter. You are able to use Beach Bucks for purchases in the Bookstore and all other participating locations. All checks which are returned are subject to a $20.00 service charge for the first check and $30 for each subsequent check.

CSULB Bookstore Rental Returns

According to CSULB.edu, here is the information about CSULB rental returns. Rentals need to be received on or before the rental return due date. If the rentals are not received on or before the due date are subject to the replacement costs and fees.

The first option is that you can drop-off your rental. With this method, you have to visit them inside the Bookstore to return your rental on or before the due date. The second option, you are able to ship your rental and make sure that it arrives on or before the due date. If you decide to ship your rental to return it, here are the things that you need to note.

  • You need to include a packing slip where there is your name, student ID#, email, # of rentals and the semester.
  • It is recommended for you to use trackable methods such as FedEx, UPS or USPS.

Here is some other information that you need to know regarding rental returns.

  • Rental Buyout
    If you are interested in keeping your rental, it is important for you to know that the price of rental buyout is the difference between the purchase price and rental price that you already paid. On your receipt, it will be listed as the ‘replacement cost’. If you want to keep your rental, you have to request a rental buyout on or before the due date. You are able to visit them at Customer Service or email them at FNS-Rentals@csulb.edu and mention that you want to do a rental buyout.
  • Library Book Drop Bins
    You are not allowed to return your CSULB Bookstore rentals in the Library book drop bins.
  • Unacceptable Condition
    If rentals are not in acceptable condition, they will not be checked in and are subject to the replacement charges.
  • Textbook Buyback
