Accessing Army AKO

AKO mail services that provided by the army are very secure. They use POP-S and IMAP-S. At the first step, you have to go to https://www.us.army.mil/

Then, you need to click the ‘CAC/PIV Login’ button.
Now, you are able to choose your ID certificate, if requested. This will be identified by your CAC username.
The next step is to click ‘OK’.
Please enter your CAC PIN. If you have logged in to your computer by using your CAC and PIN, AKO may not need any of that information, because it will be stored locally by your CAC authentication software.

How to Set your Account for CAC-Only Login?

If you have a CAC (Common Access Card) to access your AKO, you are able to set your account to be CAC only login. After you set your account to be CAC-Only, you are suspending the ability to utilize a username and password with your account. Of course, this is to prevent anyone from accessing your account without your CAC and PIN. Also, it is for preventing the need to renew your password regularly.

At the first step, you are able to log in to your AKO account by using your CAC.

Then, you are able to click the Change Password menu option.

As of October 2010, all active duty, reserves, and National guard soldiers have to register an account on AKO. Apparently, there are two kinds of accounts on AKO (Army Knowledge Online).
