About AISD Performing Arts Center
The Performing Arts Center (PAC) is a great facility designed to increase the arts experience for all students and the staff. The Performing Arts Center (PAC) contains:
- Main Hall
- Black Box Theatre
- Dance Studio
- Multipurpose room
- Lobby
- Place stage
- Recording studio
Based on the research, construction of the Performing Arts Center (PAC) was approved under the 2008 Bond program. Under the direction of the AISD Construction Management and Fine Arts departments. This facility was designed by Pfluger and Miro Rivera. They are good and popular architects. The Performing Arts Center (PAC) spaces were designed with acoustical consultation by BAi, and theatre consultation by Schuler Shook. For your information, construction began in the year of 2012, led by American Constructors Inc. AISD Performing Arts Center (PAC) officially opened with the Fine Arts Student Showcase on January 22, 2015.
Main Hall
The victorious centerpiece of the Performing Arts Center Complex is their 1,200 seat Main Hall. For your information, the Main Hall includes advanced acoustics and audio-visual systems which consist of two permanently installed rear-projection screens located on the side of the stage. Note: A Wenger Diva Shell is available for the performances of the concert.
An advanced lighting system with an in-house rep-plot allows for varied lighting settings, meeting the needs of all performance genres. The stage is about 5,200 square feet, allowing for ample room in the wings and off-stage, even with all soft goods in place. Just off the stage area, there are female and male dressing rooms.
Black Box Theatre
The Black Box Theatre has 250-seat. It is located on the north side of the Performing Arts Center (PAC), is a familiar venue for all performing artists: musicians, dancers, poets, and for theatre events. This flexible theatre that is particularly designed all in black, allows for varied configurations of traditional, three-quarter seating as required by the production.
The walls of the Black Box Theatre are covered with diffuser panels which are painted black color. Also, a catwalk grid circles the ceiling for theater lighting equipment, and ceiling adjustments. Aside from that, this Black Box theater also is meant for educational purposes because the lighting and sound booth will be able to be used as a classroom for training in lighting and sound design.
Dance Studio
The Dance Studios has 4,200-square-foot. It is located at the southeast side of the Performing Arts Center (PAC). It is especially a rehearsal space, with full-length mirrors and ballet bars on three walls. Also, full-length curtains are hung for hiding the mirrors and dampening the room acoustically. The space of the Dance Studio has a small inventory of theatrical lighting instruments with light boards, offering it to be used for more intimate performances upon request.
Multipurpose Room
The multipurpose room is 2,500 square-foot, with lots of room for small or midsize gatherings. This Multipurpose room is able to be used as a warm-up room for ensemble performances, space for more intimate concert settings or as a sight-reading room for UIL contests. There is a kiln for visual artists. Aside from that, this built-in audio-visual technology allows for seminars, presentations, lectures, and professional development within this space.
Lobby
The heart of the Performing Arts Center (PAC) is the lobby. It is designed spectacularly. It serves as a gathering place for patrons attending performances, and ideally as a pre- and post-function area for special events. For your information, a Steinway piano is located in the balcony lobby area. The student and staff artwork is on display throughout the room.
Plaza Stage
The Plaza Stage is located between the parking garage and the Performing Arts Center (PAC). It is a relaxed outdoor performance space designed for informal, small-group performances with minimal technical needs. A plaza area and landscaped courtyard becomes the perfect place to have pre- or post-show events in a welcoming outdoor setting.
Recording Studio
There is a Recording Studio which is located between the multipurpose room and administrative wing. This individual recording studio was used for the students to prepare for auditions and also to obtain experience in sound recording technology. The recording and monitoring rooms are mainly designed to reach optimum acoustic properties.
